Hey y’all! Katy from Dirty Hems here, coming at you with a long overdue D.I.Y. project! This one is super simple but has a big impact! It’s a Fringe Sleeve Shirt!

(Haha, y’all like my hot-pink fingertips? evidence of another project I’ve been working on for my personal blog: Neon Sole Heels)

Pretty self-explanatory, right?

All you need:

· shirt (I used a men’s long-sleeved t-shirt, it only cost me about $6.00)
· fringe trim (available at your local haberdashery, fabric store and online at MJ Trimming
· needle & thread & scissors

Just cut two lengths of fringe the same length as the seam on the underside of the sleeve. Whip-stitch the fringe to the seam, knot your thread & voila! Fringe wings!

‘Till next time! ♥

Hey y’all! Katy from Dirty Hems here! This time around I’m going to coach you through the creation of “fishtail” braids, which have been spotted all over the runways, the blogosphere & the streets. It’s super easy once you get the hang of it! I’ve created a video of myself braiding my hair and there is also a step by step guide below. Have fun!

graphics found via this guide.

Step One: Divide hair into two sections.
Step Two: Separate a small piece from one section and bring it over to the opposite section.
Step Three: Now take a small piece from the opposite section.
Step Four: Bring it over to the first section.
Step Five: Repeat steps two through four until braid is desired length.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have in the comments section! ♥

Hey y’all! Katy here from Dirty Hems bringing you another installment of N.E.E.T. D.I.Y.!! If you haven’t caught on yet, make sure you keep an eye out every other Friday for a D.I.Y. post from your’s truly!

For the latest project, I’m going to show you how super easy it is to change the look of a basic straw hat with items you probably have laying around on the floor of your closet! This is more of a D.I.Y. ideas post than an actual tutorial, and I really hope it helps you see that all of your accessories can do more than they seem to!

The first thing you need is a hat! I picked up this basic straw hat at a thrift store for $1, can’t get better than that! And if you prefer a different style, go for it! Fedoras, trilbies, bonnets, wide-brimmed…it’s all going to work if you put your personal spin on it.

And there’s some ideas! Necklaces, scarves, brooches, belts, you name it and it can probably go on the hat. Now like it says on the last graphic, it is SO easy to attach items to the hat in a way that can easily be removed. A basic needle & thread, a few stitches here and there, knot the thread off and ta-da! When the mood strikes, all you have to do is snip the thread and start all over.

Have fun trimming your hats! If you do a post in your own blog with a D.I.Y. hat please link in the comments, I’d love to see!

‘Til next time! ♥

Hey y’all! Katy Jones here from Dirty Hems with my first project as your new N.E.E.T. D.I.Y. Blogger!

For our first DIY Project, we’re going to make an on-trend tie-dye effect striped shirt using household bleach and not much else! It’s super easy & super awesome. Perfect for the summer!

* The black tank was made using a bleach pen instead of water. The pen is bleach in a gel form, which keeps it from spreading as much, creating a more “contained” stripe (& that great two-toned stripe effect). Just follow the steps as before but substitute the bleach pen for water!

And there you have it! ‘Till next time! ♥
