Hello, hello. It’s Mallory from Where the Lovely Things Are and for today’s handmade finds I’ve searched Etsy for the loveliest scarves.
Where I live (in the US, Maine specifically) it’s starting to cool down a bit and I’m psyched. There’s nothing that makes me more miserable than being all hot and sweaty: I am not a summer girl. In celebration of cooler weather’s arrival, I’m starting to dig out my flats, light jackets & scarves. Man oh man do I love scarves! A better accessory has never been invented. Below you’ll find some of my favorite light-weigh handmade scarves: they’re all suitable to wear now (on a non-sweltering day, of course) and when fall officially arrives. Transitional accessories! So very useful.

1.) The Wanderer Sheer Cotton Scarf $62.00 Scout & Catalogue 2.) Sunny Day Summer Scarf $28.00 Leah Duncan 3.) Purple Jellyfish Scarf $23.00 Slow Loris 4.) Virginia and Charles Scarf $32.00 Snoozer Loser 5.) Whales Sheer Jersey Summer Scarf $16.00 Zen Threads 6.) Shredded Scarf $38.00 Urban Revisions 7.) Navajo Printed Scarf $48.00 Thief & Bandit 8.) Skull Scarf $58.00 Hand and Shadow 9.) Heather with Brown and Magenta $42.00 Necklush 10.) Raspberry Owl Scarf $22.99 Bonbi Forest

Melanie Medina, 18, from Los Angeles, is a student and journalist, and blogs over at melanielikes.blogspot.com

Who are your style icons?
The sixties are definitely one of the most creative and innovative eras that I’ve come to know. The art, fashion, and music have made a special space in my heart. The quintessential sixties icons, to me, are the late Ms. Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix. Also, my Mom was a complete bombshell in the 80s. I remember a story she told me where she went to a metal concert and left her Michael Jackson-inspired jacket in her car. When the concert was over, she found the car window broken and her jacket was nowhere to be found. Complete sob story! I love love ADORE love Alexa Chung. She’s spunky, charismatic, and a swaggin’ chick. I’ve never seen anyone as well-put-together as she is! Plus, she has killer hair.
How would you describe your style?
I always describe my style as ” ’60s reincarnated.” The sixties was a time for people to express themselves freely – self-expression is what my style is based upon.

What inspires you?
Good clothes inspire me. Love for good clothes inspires me. Classy men inspire me. Classy women inspire me. Wine inspires me. The galaxy, the ocean, the wind – they all inspire me. You inspire me.
Your favorite item in your wardrobe?
My absolute favorite item in my wardrobe is my fur coat. It’s warm, beautiful, and it makes me want to take a trip to the Amazon rainforest, crawl into a cave, and take a nap with a pack of tigers OR call myself Edie and walk around New York. I swear, this fur coat makes me think of baby ocelots and my favorite pillow.

How would you describe your blog?
The inner works of a neurologically diverse individual with hips who wants to be best friends with Alexa Chung.
What are your fashion plans for this summer?
My plans for this summer include finding a job in retail, scouring thrift shops for pieces that are sun-friendly, and going to San Francisco in August for the Outlands Festival to see The Strokes. I look forward to do some major sight-seeing and people-watching. Très exciting! Fashion-wise, my summer wishlist consists of black high-waisted Levis, the perfect summer dress, a new camera, the perfect lace-up brown boots, floral pants and tribal printed shorts.

1 Floral Drop Crotch Pants $189.00 My Pet Square @ pixiemarket.com / Gunners Stretch Jeans $106.97 AUD The Cassette Society @ thegrandsocial.com.au 2 Vintage Brown Leather Boots $67.00 santokivintage.etsy.com 3 Perfect LBD Little Brown Dress $36.99 shopruche.com 4 1970s High-Waisted Levi’s $110.00 houseofcircumstance.etsy.com 5 Black Kodak Baby Brownie with Film $20.00 chasevictory.etsy.com 6 Scarlett Shorts in White Coin Print $140.00 Eskell@ refinery29shops.com / Print Studio Shorts $29.00 modcloth.com

Local Shopping Secrets:
There’s a really great thrift store in downtown Downey that’s owned by a bunch of lovely elderly women. There’s an amazing selection of vintage jackets, button-ups, & dresses! Plus, it reeks of wisdom in the whole store. So if you’re ever in Downey, go to the Second Tyme Around Thrift Store (11026 Downey Ave, Downey, CA 9024).
Online Shopping Secrets:
Etsy has to the best bet when finding legitimate vintage pieces – there are countless indie designers that are lovely-with-a-cherry-on-top, but I also love eBay – though, only when I win. I love Seychelles! They have some of the best shoes on the net!
